Job Title: Challenge Course Facilitator

Position Overview

Come work with people of all abilities on a new challenge course designed by Tom Leahy at our mountain campus in Red Feather, Colorado! You’ll lead individualized and team building activities on this course designed for accessibility, with options to find the right challenge for each individual. Very strong facilitation skills are necessary for this position, which provides in-depth, reflective, and supportive challenge course experiences to people striving to break through barriers in their lives. This includes populations such as veterans, youth, adults with disabilities and caregivers. Strong interpersonal abilities, time management, problem-solving, attention to details and safety, sound decision-making, and technical skills are also essential. 


Participant Support

  • Facilitate a meaningful challenge course experience through the choice model

  • Support and communicate with participants to provide information, solve problems, and provide general support

  • Ensure the mental, emotional, and physical safety of each participant

  • Lead discussions and debriefs to help participants understand lessons learned during a program


Challenge Course Operations & Risk Management

  • Perform necessary preparations and breakdown of the challenge course for each program

  • Collaborate with other challenge course and No Barriers staff members to set up, take down, and facilitate each program

  • Exercise good judgement and practice independent decision making regarding risk management and effective use of the course

  • Perform necessary gear checks and logs before and after each program

  • Follow safety procedures as specified by No Barriers USA Challenge Course Manager


Required Experience and Training

  • Challenge course facilitation with people with disabilities

  • ACCT Level 1 or 2 challenge course training

  • Applicants are subject to a background check, and employment is contingent upon the institution’s verification of the completion of the background check


Work environment and schedule—

  • Outdoor camp setting in Red Feather, Colorado (55 minutes north of Fort Collins)

  • Must have flexibility to work according to program needs; every effort will be made to schedule work days as far in advance as possible.

  • Challenge Course facilitation requires one day of work including drive time to the challenge course location 


Possible physical activities—

  • Lifting and carrying 50lbs or more

  • Moving program gear and equipment

  • Climbing

  • Performing participant rescues if necessary (ACCT Level 2 only)

  • Ability to stand for several hours at a time while facilitating course activities

Compensation and Benefits

  • ACCT Level 2:Rate of $300-$450 per day commensurate with experience and certifications
  • ACCT Level 1:Rate of $200-$300 per day commensurate with experience and certifications
  • Gas mileage reimbursement for transportation to and from the No Barriers Mountain Campus of $.40/mile up to 200 miles R/T per day
